Biggest Loser 9: Episode 915 Recap

(Original Air Date 4/27/2010)

After the elimination last week Alison has an announcement for everyone. They are going to Texas to help inspire people to get fit.  Bob and Jillian will also be there to help get the people from Texas on track for a healthy lifestyle.

The contestants are heading to various radio stations to help inspire the people of Texas to get out and join them for fitness and a 5k run! Awesome!

Texans Come Out to Meet the Biggest Loser Contestants for the 5K:

Alison gets everyone fired up for the race with a great speech and the announcement that everyone will receive a 90 day free pass to 24 Hour Fitness. The people of Texas get teamed up with one of the contestants to do the race together. The contestants inspire them to walk/run at whatever pace they need to be at to complete the race….and they’re off!

Daris is determined to do his personal best for this race and vows that he will turn around to finish with the rest of his gang after completion.

As the do the 5K, the contestants do an awesome job cheering the people on and sharing their personal stories with them. Talk about inspiring!

Daris does complete the race with his personal best time and heads back to the rest of his group. Go Daris!

The happy and proud contestants and Texans finish the 5k.

Working out at 24 Hour Fitness with Bob:

Bob shows up at the 24 Hour Fitness in Texas to work out with a gang of people determined to create change. He also conducts a Q & A with them which is awesome!

Ashley, Daris and Michael find themselves forming a bit of a team of sorts as they are the ones left without partners. We see them walking stairs and inspiring each other.

Challenge:

The contestants meet Alison to find out about the challenge.  Each person will have to herd cattle into their pre-assigned pen.  The person who ends up with the most cattle in their pen will win immunity at this week’s weigh-in. This challenge does not look easy at all!

Koli wins immunity after it comes down to a 3-way tie!

Jillian Speaks at a High School with Abby:

Abby from Biggest Loser Season 8 invited Jillian to a High School in Texas that she has become very invested in. Jillian speaks and then opens up a Q & A session with the students. Jillian takes a few minutes after to speak to one brave overweight girl one-on-one.

Last Chance Workout:

O’Neil and Sunshine need to be away for the funeral of O’Neil’s brother. The rest of the contestants dig in for another last chance workout in Texas! Time to work hard!

Trainer Tip:

When traveling, pack your own healthy meals and snacks instead of eating food served on airplanes. Also, choose water to drink to help keep you hydrated.

Anyone on the journey to lose weight and get healthy will definitely appreciate an accurate weight measurement.

There are differing viewpoints as to how frequently one should weigh oneself while dieting if even at all.

I am of the personal opinion that it is a good idea to have a regular weigh-in day so that you can track progress and celebrate those milestones along the way.

Will you have times when you want to throw the scale out the window?  (this one may be too large for that! 😉 ) For sure! BUT ultimately, I believe that it is one of many way to measure your success and would advocate for at least a regular monthly weigh-in, if not weekly as I tend to do.

About the Seca 700 Scale:

  • Weighs in up to 500 lbs (220 kg) – even very heavy people can get an accurate measurement with this scale
  • Weighs accurately to the 1/8 pound (50 g) graduation so you can celebrate and track even the smallest bit of weight loss
  • Highest quality with value on a great ergonomic design
  • A platform that is safe and large enough to accommodate even heavier people – is slip resistant and low enough to the ground so that it is very easy to step onto
  • Very durable and made with awesome quality precision – the base of the Seca 700 is made of sturdy cast iron and the steady iron column supports the mechanism of the beam
  • The Seca 700 Scale is very easy to put together. The scale will arrive with only a few pieces to assemble which require only 3 screws.
  • Warranty: 5 yrs

If you are just getting started on your weight loss journey, I know that stepping on that scale for the first time can be intimidating and downright hard! Whether you choose the Seca 700 scale or another style of your choice, I encourage you to take that first step! Remember that this number will only be going down from your point of decision onward….you can do it! 🙂

Biggest Loser 9: Episode 914 Recap

(Original Air Date 4/20/2010)

The contestants meet with Alison to hear the announcement of a serious food temptation…

Food Temptation:

Alison announces that there is a room upstairs filled with food – healthy and unhealthy choices. The kitchen is locked and the contestants must eat all of their meals from this room for the whole day.

At the end of the day, the person with the most calories consumed will win the temptation and control the elimination this week by having the only vote.  If this person also happens to fall before the yellow line, the game will continue as normal.

Most of the contestants actually stayed below their normal calories for the day. Koli, on the other hand completely blew everyone away by eating 4,164 calories! Koli wins the single vote this week and he did it all to keep Sam in the game.

Bob and Jillian discover that Koli won the temptation and are annoyed by everything that Koli ate all because of wanting Sam to stay. Jillian is flat out disgusted.

The contestants workout with Bob and Jillian and everyone is very amazed by what O’Neil has accomplished as he does some serious push-ups! Go O’Neil!

Ashley has a melt down in the gym and talks to Bob about where she is emotionally right now.

The contestants meet with the doc to see how all of their hard work is paying off physically. MAJOR gains here for all! Awesome! Now that is the real pay-off to getting healthy.

Challenge:

Each contestant has 175 building blocks to get themselves high up to collect their banner and win the challenge. The prize? A 1 lb advantage at the weigh-in.

The person that comes in last will get a 1 lb disadvantage for the week.

Sam and Daris are the first to reach the ladders and try for the climb.  Daris wins the challenge and the one lb advantage! Go Daris!!

Now everyone will fight to not come in last.

Man, O’Neil falls as he is climbing down from his blocks and needs to be taken away by medics…looks like injury to his knee. 🙁 O’Neil automatically gets the 1 lb disadvantage because he was unable to complete the challenge.

He comes back from the hospital wearing a brace on his knee but it good spirits.

Bob and Jillian announce that the contestants are heading to the beach – not with their trainers, but to meet a very special person to workout with…Gabrielle Reece, professional beach volleyball player. She puts them through an intense workout at the beach.

Trainer Tip:

It is just as important to exercise your brain as it is your body. Try balancing on one foot or on a stability ball as someone quizzes you so that you are working your brain along with your stability skills.

O’Neil gets the sad news that his older brother passed away from cancer. Man, hard week for O’Neil.

Last Chance Workout:

Typical last chance workout craziness! Jillian works O’Neil out in a big way which is great for him emotionally. Seems that he really needs it with everything he’s been through this week.

30 Day Shred Challenge 2 (May 3-June 1)

30-day-shred It’s back!!!

The 30 Day Challenge was the first team challenge we did here at Celebrate Weight Loss and it was such a great success, we’re doin it again! 😉

What: A 30 day commitment to do Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred workout

When: May 3-June 1

What you need to participate:

  • the desire to create change in your life
  • the determination to stick with it for 30 days
  • the heart to encourage others involved in the challenge

Shopping list:

Why I Think This Challenge Is For You:

  • There are 3 levels to choose from – I say we ALL can do level 1!
  • The actual routine is 20 MINUTES! (allow 30 with warm-up/cool-down)
  • Only failure will be to NOT DO IT: Even if you can do 1/4 to 1/2 of each exercise, we will consider it success! If routine is difficult where you are currently at, a good goal may be to be able to do full 20 minutes on day 30. 🙂
  • I am calling it a 30 day challenge, but personally I will do 5 days/wk with 2 rest days (most often on the weekend) – feel free to do this or a full 30 days – Either way = success in my book!
