When I started my weight loss at 278 lbs, I knew that walking would be the key cardio exercise for me…at least at the very beginning.

Walking is something you can do anywhere and pretty much year round if you are willing to bundle up in colder climates.

I actually did not have a pedometer or similar equipment when I started out in my journey, and I do think it is one thing that would have really made the walking  a bit more fun and easier to track.

As you know, I am all about challenges around here! 😉 I can imagine using the Omron HJ 112 to challenge oneself to a monthly mileage challenge. You could even break it down into weekly and daily challenges with your steps.

Features of the Omron HJ 112 Pedometer:

  • dual-axis motion sensor can be placed vertically or horizontally to accurately count your steps
  • capable of calculating the calories that you’ve burned – this can be huge when you are trying to lose weight!
  • every single step will get counted – very accurate and there is no noise to the equipment
  • easy and fun way to meet your fitness goals!
  • takes the guesswork out of how much your are exercising
  • memory of the HJ 112 has the ability to store up to 7 days of information
  • the pedometer will automatically reset itself at 12:00 midnight every day so it’s ready to go in the morning when you are
  • measures time, distance walked, regular steps as well as aerobic steps
  • the large display is very easy to read while walking
  • included with the Omron HJ 112: clip & strap, holder, lithium battery and a clock

Biggest Loser 9: Episode 913 Recap

(Original Air Date 4/13/2010)

The show opens with a look at the contestants at the very beginning of the season…we remember just where they were when they stated….coming up – Suze Orman and previous Biggest Loser hero, Danny.

Alison informs the contestants of a surprise awaiting them in the gym.

Pop Challenge:
Each contestant will balance a tray while adding quarters to it. The last person holding onto the quarters at the end will win and the prize is $10 for each quarter they are left holding.  20 minutes in and people are really starting to struggle with their trays.  It comes down to Andrea, Sunshine and Michael.  Michael won $1000 and Sunshine actually goes away with $650.  Way to go!!

Suze Orman meets with the gang to talk about what weight loss and finances have in common. A lot of debt can feel like a burden just as weight can feel like a heavy burden.

Trainer Tip:
At work it can be difficult to stay mindful of healthy living.  Many office versions of the Biggest Loser are popping up around the country.  Get involved!

Back to Suze and the gang…in walks last year’s Biggest Loser Danny! He talks about his debt and his weight issues. The contestants discuss their own money issues.

Last season, Suze picked Danny as the winner of the Biggest Loser. This season she picks Sunshine. Her pick is based on credit scores and how Sunshine deals with finances. Hmmm…not sure I really agree with all that. Interesting theory.

Yay! The contestants then get to work out with Danny!  Jillian and Bob are excited and stunned to see him! Fun times in the gym!

Jillian and Victoria have a bit of a heart to heart about what is holding her back. She pushes through on the treadmill.  Go Victoria!

Then Victoria and Koli have a nice chat…very good and kind.

Individual Challenge: (for a car!)
The contestants meet up with Alison out in the rain and she announces that TWO people are going to win cars in today’s challenge! WooHoo!

The contestants have to run in the pouring rain to colored balloons that hold many keys. They then will run back and forth trying one key at a time until two people choose the correct keys to start the cars!

OK, one car goes to Drea! Awwww….O’Neil wins the other and immediately states that it is going to Sunshine! What a sweet Dad!!! Love O’Neil!

Trainer Tip:
Interval training is a great form of exercise.  If you don’t have access to equipment, you can sprint outside for 50 yards, walking back to where you started and then repeat to get a great interval workout.

Back to the gym…Jillian has Victoria doing sprints with EACH of her teammates. Argh! Then that talk it out about how much Victoria deserves to win with her health.

Drea and Bob have a great heart to heart about how much more comfortable she is in her body and with physical communication. She did not like to touch or be touched when she was really overweight.

Bob has the contestants working outside in the mud and then…all hell breaks out! Bob is muddy and Jill looks, then runs in disbelief…fear? 😉 Jillian is carried away towards the mud by the contestants! It’s a total mud bath for all!

Last Chance Workout:

Jillian did vow to get revenge for the mud fight and the time is now! AND WOW! Michael runs 5 miles for the first time! Impressive, I’d say!

Drea’s transformation since leaving the ranch:
